Pepsi Invaders was an advergame developed for Atari 2600 platform. Game was commissioned by Coca-Cola and developed by Atari. It dates back to 1983.
Game is a modification of original Space Invaders, which you surely know of. Because original game had six aliens rows, and word Pepsi only 5 letters, they left one alien row. They also changed limited lives to unlimited, but shortened time form unlimited to a three-minute time limit.
You can check it in this video bellow, I found today on YouTube:
One more interesting thing. They gave 125 copies of this game to sales executives attending 1983 sales convention, so this game is really rare. This year (2010) one of collectors bought a copy on eBay for $2,125.
The game was launched in 2nd quarter of 2009 to promote their Puma L.I.F.T. (Lite Injected Foam Techology) series of shoes, weighting 173 grams.Website with game also offers lots of information on their products, as usual for advergames. In the time of launch there was also a challenge, with prizes, first prize was meeting runner Usain Bolt, other were Puma Lift shoes.
Puma L.I.F.T. game has simple idea. Player has to score higest result possible with one of two in-game characters, which are Usain Bolt and Etoo Samuel. They do so with avoiding some obstacles – buildings and objects, and picking up other bonus objects. Gameplay is simple 2-dimensional. Characters “fly” in the air with clicking mousebutton or spacebar, which requries good timming to be able to hover over skyscrappers. Practice game can be played without registration, but to compete in the challenge player must register.
It’s been a long time since I posted here. It’s not that I haven’t come accross some fine advergames, but I had been really busy lately. That will change (I hope ).
In this review I’ll write about Panda Racer, Fiat advergame featuring their car model Panda. First thing to say is, that game is very buggy. In fact it crashed my Mozilla Firefox twice, when I attempted to play it. I had more luck opening it in Google Chorme. My first impressions was that Panda Racer looks promising.
